How Much Do Custom T-Shirts Cost?

There are four things that determine the price of custom T-shirts:

  • The apparel you select (better quality = higher costs)
  • The number of ink colors in your artwork (fewer ink colors = lower prices)
  • The number of print locations (a three-color design going on the front and the back of a T-shirt is going to cost double the amount of printing only on the front or one location)
  • The number of items in your order (T-shirt printing in bulk = lower costs)

That said, the Newark Tees pricing model is fair and transparent. Our price list shows the average price for printing a one-color design, in one location, on a classic 100% cotton T-shirt.

If your artwork requires modifications by our design team, an additional 1-2 business days may be added to the turnaround time and a $40 art fee will apply.

What T-shirt printing methods are available, and what are the pros and cons of each?

We focus on three primary T-shirt printing methods: Screen Printing, DTG, and HTV. The best method for your project will depend on your design, order size, fabric type, deadline, and budget. Here’s a quick overview of the pros and cons of each.

  • Screen printing is ideal for large orders due to its cost efficiency and ability to produce vibrant, long-lasting prints on various fabric types. However, it is less cost-effective for small orders, limited to simpler designs with fewer colors, and requires more setup time, which can impact turnaround.
  • Direct-to-Garment (DTG) printing is great for small orders and one-off designs, as it can print complex, multi-color designs with fine details and has no setup costs, making it more affordable for short runs. The downside is that DTG prints are less durable, especially on darker fabrics, and it is slower for large orders, working best on 100% cotton fabrics.
  • Heat Transfer Vinyl (HTV) is perfect for customizing individual garments, such as names or numbers, and works on a wide variety of fabrics, offering a smooth, vibrant finish. However, it is not as durable as screen printing or DTG, is best suited for simpler designs, and can be more time-consuming for large quantities.

Our team can help you determine the best printing method for your specific needs.

Do you make custom photo T-shirts?

Yes, you could have a photo T-shirt printed in two different ways. The first option involves digitally processing your photo through software and printing the photograph on a T-shirt directly. The second option involves us printing your image onto a flexible base material, then later transferring said material to a T-shirt.

How long does it take to get custom T-shirts printed?

For most projects, if you place an order now, it will be ready in five business days or less.

This timeline assumes we have received print-ready artwork and all the necessary details—items, sizes, and quantities—leaving us to focus on what we do best: supply the garments and print your design.
In this instance, if you submit an order before 11 AM ET on Monday, it should be ready for pickup or shipping by 7 PM ET on Friday.

However, a few factors could affect this timeline. If you are utilizing our design services, the time required may vary based on the complexity of the design and the number of revisions needed. Additionally, external factors such as carrier delays or issues with the availability of blank apparel from our suppliers may also impact the delivery schedule. We strive to minimize these delays and will keep you informed should any issues arise.

Let us know if you have a tight deadline, and we will try to accommodate your needs.

Is next day T-shirt printing available?

Depending on the scope of your project next day T-shirt printing may be available for a fee of $75 per print location for up to 2 colors, and $150 per print location for 3 or more colors.

For example, if you have a 2-color print on the front and a 2-color print on the back of a T-shirt, the total rush fee would be $150. Please contact us to find out the specific options for ordering next day custom T-shirts.

Can you print on items other than T-shirts?

We do offer a lot more than just tees! Despite our name, we offer custom screen printing and embroidery on a wide variety of clothing. This includes, but is not limited to, tank tops, long sleeves, sweatshirts, hoodies, track pants, shirts, polos, bibs, aprons, jackets, and pants. Whether you require a small batch or a large order, we have you covered with high-quality screen printing and embroidery services on a range of garments.

What is the best file format for screen printing T-shirts?

For T-shirt printing, the best file formats are .AI or .EPS. For screen printing, your file should have a resolution of 300 DPI in CMYK or grayscale. For direct-to-garment (DTG) printing, all files must have a transparent background. We support the following file formats: JPG, PDF, TIFF, EPS, PSD, AI, and PNG.

Can I send a screenshot or a photo of an existing T-shirt as the artwork for my custom order?

Sending a screenshot or a photo of an existing T-shirt is not ideal for creating high-quality prints. These images often lack the necessary resolution and detail required for screen printing, leading to blurred or pixelated results.

Additionally, these formats cannot be directly used, so our team would need to recreate or significantly modify the artwork, to make the artwork suitable for printing. This additional work can delay your project and may incur extra charges for the necessary adjustments.

To ensure the best results, we recommend providing vector files or high-resolution artwork. If you need help preparing your artwork, our team can assist you, but please keep in mind the potential impact on your project's timeline and budget.

Can I see a mockup before placing an order?

We understand you would like to see a mockup before committing, but our process is a little different. You will receive a mockup after payment has been made and your project is officially scoped. This helps us prioritize orders that are ready for production and ensures we're able to meet deadlines for all of our clients. Once your order is placed, you’ll receive a mockup to review and approve before we start production, so you can make sure everything is just right. For more information, check out our full process here.

When will my order be ready for me to pick up?

When you choose to pick up your online order at our store instead of selecting delivery, you’ll receive both an email and a text message confirming that your order has completed production and passed our quality check. The message will also provide simple instructions on how to schedule a convenient pickup time.
